Panic – Exit Bar at the mall malfunctioned and repaired

Going to the mall is always fun when working with customer projects. Last week I had a call regarding a rear exit / panic bar that had stopped alarming when the door was opened. Also the latching mechanism was no longer functioning properly.

After removing the out cover and guards I was able to spot the issues almost immediately. The spring that connects the latch which allows it to retract when pushing in the panic bar had disconnected and was damaged. I replaced the spring to solve the first issue. Swapping out the battery was all that was needed to resolve the alarm issue. After a few other minor maintenance adjustments and a good lubing it was back to normal.
